CEREC Dental Restorations
What is CEREC?
CEREC is a revolutionary way to restore damaged teeth in a single visit.Repairing teeth can be extremely complicated. The traditional restoration can take several visits, requiring impressions and temporary restorations.
When is CEREC recommended?
- To replace old, deteriorated & leaking fillings or crowns.
- Cracked or broken teeth.
- Sensitive teeth due to wear, decay or fracture.
- To replace fillings due to metal allergies.
- To replace dark fillings or unesthetic crowns.
- To esthetically enhance smile on front teeth with veneers.
- Back teeth that require a durable restoration because of a "strong" bite.
- Almost any case when a crown, inlay, onlay, filling or veneer is recommended.
Benefits/Advantages of CEREC
First and foremost, the restoration can be performed in a single session, ususally in about one hour. With CEREC there's no need for us to make an impression and send it to a lab. We won't inconvenience you by asking you to return for a second visit.
Secondly, the restoration is natural looking, because it is made of tooth-colored ceramic material. It's metal-free which means no silver fillings to discolor your smile!
The ceramic material is compatible with tissue in your mouth and is high-grade, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. It allows us to be extremely precise and save more of the healthy part of your tooth.
- saves time
- saves visits
- saves pain
- eliminates 2nd anesthetic

Key Benefits
- CEREC porcelain is very tooth-like. It is smoother than traditional porcelains and does not cause as much wear to the opposing teeth.
- CEREC restorations are more conservative than traditional crowns. More of the natural tooth structure is retained with this new technology.
- CEREC restorations are bonded to the tooth. This reduces sensitivity and strengthens the tooth. Most traditional crowns are cemented with glues that can "wash away" in time.
- X-rays penetrate CEREC porcelain so the dentist can see problems, if they develop, down the road. It is difficult to see what is happening under traditional metal or porcelain-to-metal crowns with dental X-rays.
Steps in Treatment
First, the tooth is prepared for the inlay, onlay or crown. Then we apply a thin layer of reflective powder directly on the tooth's surface. Using a special camera, we then take a picture of the tooth. We work from this photo, which is actually a pin-sharp optical impression of the tooth.
Computer Aided Design (CAD) technology helps us design the restoration from the optical impression. You can actually watch us design your new restoration on a full-color computer monitor right before your eyes!
Then CEREC creates an extremely precise restoration. Two high-speed diamond burs work simultaneously to mill the restoration out of a solid block of ceramic material. Finally, we bond the newly milled restoration to the tooth using state-of-the-art adhesive dentistry.
Care Tips
Crowns function and feel like your natural teeth and their care should be the same which includes brushing, flossing and routine dental cleanings and examinations.
Alternative Treatments
Convential Crowns.
Repairing teeth can be extremely complicated. The traditional restoration can take several visits and require impressions and temporary restorations.
Anaesthesia & Oral Sedation
As an adjunct to the stress free atmosphere of our office, we also offer sedation dentistry for any patient who suffers from dental anxiety or has a phobia.
Whether you are afraid of the needle, the sound of the drill incites terror or you just feel that dentistry is too painful, many consider this option to have their dental needs met. Sedation dentistry has been used safely in millions of dental procedures. Any procedure can be completed while you are sedated and most people choose to take care of everything in as little as two appointments. Many times it is as simple as just taking a pill prior to your appointment. If you have been hiding your smile, putting up with pain, or putting off going to the dentist because of dental phobia, it's time to make a positive change in your life. Take care of yourself first, make the call and enjoy the benefits of a healthy mouth and smile.
